Hydrate Shampoo & Condition Pureology

To begin with I have chosen the Hydrate Shampoo and Condition by Pureology as I have been told by many people they are an outstanding example of the Pureology range. Read my review to find out if these products are worth the hype.

One question that comes up a lot in the vegan community is if there are any professional hair care brands that are vegan. At first glance, you would think it would be an impossible task to find one. However, I was recently informed that one of L’Oreal’s professional brands, Pureology, is in fact vegan. I thought they must have been smoking something because there was no way I would believe a brand as iconic as Pureology was actually vegan. After checking the trusted resources of Leaping Bunny and PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies. Finally, I was delighted to find that they are 100% vegan – every single product – cruelty-free to the max. Queue me squealing like a girl and making a shopping list in my head of products I wanted to try.

First impression Hydrate Shampoo & Condition by Pureology

  • Firstly, the packaging of Pureology hydrate shampoo and condition are near identical, except the conditioner is inverted so it stands on the lid (one of my biggest pet peeves). Fortunately, the other end is flat as well so if you are anal like me you can just flip it the ‘correct’ way up and solve the issue.
  • Both bottles have nearly identical writing on the front so if you aren’t paying attention you could easily mistake the conditioner for the shampoo. Unfortunately, I did this the first time I used them.
  • I find you need to clearly look at the bottle each time before you pour some into your hand. Otherwise, you will waste a batch and feel like an idiot … well, that is how I felt anyway. On the other hand, you probably won’t have a problem with this if you leave the conditioner lid-down. However, I would still love if they made the packaging a little easier to differentiate in the steamy midst of a shower.
  • The Pureology hydrate shampoo formula is an opaque purple liquid while the conditioner is an off-white thick cream. Being the first time I used the products I didn’t know what to look for.
  • At 250ml, the smaller of the available sizes, it’s a generous amount of product for something you need to use so little of. Above all, the formula of Pureology shampoo and condition is highly concentrated. A little goes a long way for both the shampoo and the conditioner.

Hydrate Shampoo & Condition by Pureology Things you should know

  • The shampoo has a strong scent, which despite being officially said to include Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Anise, and Patchouli. I for some reason think it smells like Lavender. Either way it’s a lovely, feminine fragrance that doesn’t linger in the hair too long. It lathers quickly and easily, rinses well without effort and doesn’t leave my hair feeling squeaky.
  • Condition is a thick conditioner that would rival some of the top hair masks in the market. A very small dollop massaged into mid-lengths and ends is all you need. The mint fragrance packs a punch, leaving you to feel awake and clean in an instant. It combs through easily (and even quicker with a Tangle Teezer) and rinses out to leave hair feeling super smooth.
  • I was fearful the Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Condition would be too rich for my fine hair but I have found them to be ideal. They leave my hair super soft, smooth and frizz-free. My scalp remains oil-free for an average of 2-3 days, but my ends don’t get as dried out as they usually do in that time.
