Back when I first dipped my toes into the beauty community years ago, Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation review featured heavily in Beauty Gurus favourites lists. It has been a product that I have always wanted to try, however, being bombarded with new makeup releases weekly, made this little gem fall slowly by the wayside and forgotten about. Fast forward to now, and I was lucky enough to be gifted a generous parcel of KGD goodies. Finally, the coveted Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation made it into my hot little hands. Being reformulated and highly raved about, I was really excited to see if this cult classic lived up to its reputation.
The coveted Aqua Foundation, known for giving skin the same youthful glow you experience right after a facial, is redesigned for increased coverage, radiance, hydration and longevity. Formulated with our signature Gloss Film Powder, the light-diffusing minerals brighten and minimize pores, while resisting sweat and oiliness. This breathable serum foundation contains weightless skin-conditioning emollients that improve the hydration and health of skin for a flawless and comfortable complexion all day.
REVIEW PACKAGING AND FORMULA KOH GEN DO AQUA FOUNDATION
Koh Gen Do are known for their bold pops of statement red across their entire range. The Aqua Foundation doesn’t disappoint. Housed in a chic skinny glass bottle with a red bottom, this foundation is bang on brand. The product is delivered through a practical and super hygienic pump. The formula is light and quite similar to a serum. Not watery, nor is it thick, just a lightweight easy to spread consistency.
HOW DOES AQUA FOUNDATION APPLY?
Aqua Foundation applied well via all methods (brush, sponge, and fingers). However, my preferred application, as with most foundations at the moment, is by applying it with my fingers. The warmth combined with the precision allows the formula to sink into the skin creating a seamless and flawless natural-looking application.

The coverage is really quite sheer at first but is so easily built up to a medium finish without any caking or patchiness. The foundation acts as a second skin and looks just beautiful, natural and fresh. It doesn’t sink into lines but instead gives my skin this soft-focus like finish that blurs out imperfections while still highlighting the best features of my face. Unlike many dewy foundations, it isn’t tacky nor does it transfer.
HOW DOES AQUA FOUNDATION PERFORM?
When words like luminous, dewy and radiant are used to describe a foundation, I get a little nervous. While they usually look good initially, these foundations can tend to get into hot mess territory pretty quickly, but not Aqua Foundation. Despite having oily skin, this foundation sits beautifully all day long. It gives me the radiance that I so desire, without breaking up, melting off or making me look like a shiny beast. Aqua Foundation lasts easily through a long work day, and beyond.
The longest I managed was about 10 hours, and it still looked fresh. The pigment didn’t separate or collect in areas of my face. When I wear this, I often catch myself in the mirror really impressed with my reflection, and that doesn’t happen much at all. This foundation makes me feel really good about myself.
FINAL VERDICT
This foundation is utterly beautiful. I am obsessed. There is just something so magical in the way it blurs out any pores, wrinkles or blemishes. It’s feather-light, ridiculously natural looking while giving me the most beautiful youthful radiance. A foundation that truly makes me feel good and gives me confidence is worth its weight in gold. This is everything I want in a foundation and more. While I might reach for something a little heavier on special occasions, Aqua Foundation is right up there with my favourite foundations of all time. Could it be a contender for wedding makeup? Most definitely.
A little while ago, I bought the Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation expecting results similar to this. Unfortunately, it did not work for me at all. But Koh Gen Do has filled that foundation sized hole in my life and I couldn’t be happier or more impressed.
