I fell in love with Anastasia’s brow products back in 2010 when I treated myself to one of her signature brow makeover’s. My brows had never looked so good and the products were a dream to work with. I picked up one of her maintenance kits to take home with me and in that kit was the original Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Medium Brown. It was like a little pot of gold that I never wanted to part with, so I used it sparingly because I knew getting it in Australia was just about impossible. The good news is that things have changed since then and now Anastasia Beverly Hills has exploded all over the world. With this in mind, I decided to splash out and buy another of her Brow Powder Duo’s but this time in a slightly darker shade, Dark Brown.
The packaging has changed a lot since the original came out but now that I have ample brow powder to throw around I am going to review it for you.
Review Packaging Anastasia Brow Powder Duo
- The small black compact is fitted with a rose gold emblem on the lid. Inside is the brow powder and a mirror fitted beneath the lid. It’s actually a great mirror, very clear and I’ve been able to use it to do my brows while traveling. The unit is lightweight and similar in size to a single-pan eyeshadow.
- Each compact contains two shades of brow powder, split down the middle. Having a lighter and darker shade in one product makes it easy to customize the look you are trying to achieve. Using a mix of the two will give your brows more definition and a realistic, naturally-filled look for sparse areas. Alternatively, you can use either shade singularly to fill in the entire brow. I love the variety of options.
Anastasia Brow Powder Duo – Review
- The powder is matte so it blends perfectly with brow hairs.
- I find this powder clings to the brow hairs better than any other brow powder I’ve used. It doesn’t just mark the skin, it actually attaches to the tiny, light-colored hairs and makes them visible just like a brow tint does.
- It lasts a really long time without fading or fallout. I’ve mistakenly rubbed my brows before (forgetting that I had brow powder in them) and not once has it transferred to my hands or elsewhere on my face. That’s magical for me because I do touch my face a lot (very bad, I know!). And other brow products can leave me looking like I rolled my face in dirt.
- You can wear this powder alone or set it with a brow gel. For daytime, I usually wear it solo. On the other hand, for nighttime, I add a bit of brow gel to gloss them up a bit.
- A strange but important benefit for me is that this powder doesn’t cause any irritation if applied immediately after a brow shaping. Sometimes I can have a bit of a reaction if I apply makeup to an area that was just waxed/plucked. Luckily, this product never does it.
- I don’t like that the product contains a few palm oil-derived ingredients as well as parabens. Actually, I didn’t realize this prior to purchasing because I was caught up in the excitement. But I would reconsider purchasing until they replaced the palm oil. I don’t have a big issue with parabens in a product like this (skincare is a different story) but it’s worth noting if you avoid them.
- You can use an angled brush to apply the powder. But I prefer to use the recommended Large Synthetic Duo Brush #12 which has a spooley at one end and a perfectly sized angled brush at the other.
