How to Use Egg White Face Mask for Acne and Pimples

Egg white has been known to help with treating acne and pimples for ages and this beauty tip has been passed down by word of mouth for years and years. Egg whites help with acne and pimples because, when they dry out on the skin, they cleanse the skin. Egg whites soak up excess oil and dirt from pores which cause acne and pimples.

If you’re prone to acne or pimples, this is how to use egg white face mask:

  1. Apply 1 egg white on your entire face. You can whisk the egg so that it’s easier to apply.
  2. Put the paper towel over your face, over the egg white. You can apply more egg white over the towel if you have extra left.
  3. Leave the egg white mask on your skin for at least half an hour.
  4. Gently remove the towel from your face and rinse your face with lukewarm water.
  5. Finally, wash your face with cool water so that your pores tighten to prevent dirt from entering them again.

Can Egg White Face Mask Help Reduce Wrinkles?

Unfortunately, there is no medical evidence that egg white helps reduce wrinkles. According to Livestrong, it is shown that egg whites can help pull the skin in, which reduces fine wrinkles but that is just temporarily. But on the other hand, egg white does contain vitamin A which reduces wrinkles.

You can use egg white face mask to temporarily reduce fine wrinkles before a night out. The method of using egg white mask for wrinkles is the same as with mask for acne: apply it on the face and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. Then wash off the mask with water.

Why You Shouldn’t Use Lemon in Egg White Face Mask

I’ve seen a bunch of articles online about using lemon in all kinds of face masks, but I wouldn’t suggest you use lemon in this way. Lemons are great but not for the delicate facial skin. They are too much acidic for the skin with pH of 2-3 while the skin has pH of 4.5. This is why lemon juice can trigger inflammation of the skin and make it burn. You can read more about how the pH of ingredients affects the skin at FutureDerm.

Lemon juice is also phototoxic which means you should not be going out of your house after applying lemon juice on your skin. If you really want to try a face mask with lemon juice, make sure to dilute lemon juice with another ingredient that will make the mixture closer to the skin pH.

BTW don’t throw out the egg yolk – it can be used in a homemade wrinkle cream – if you have any wrinkles 🙂
