Those with oily skin are often overwhelmed by what they think they need to keep their sebaceous glands under control.

However, your skin care routine does not have to be difficult or complex. A few basic products with the right ingredients and creating an effective routine with them is all that you need to start loving your skin again.

Daily Oily Skin Care

Many people with oily skin cleanse their face multiple times per day, but if you are cleansing more than twice, you are encouraging more oil to come to the surface.

Choose a cleanser that is soapy or gel-based. These cleansers work to strip excess oil and cleanse your pores.

When you are looking at cleansers, you will find that some are meant specifically for oily skin, making it easy to find a good one. Use your cleanser in the morning and at night to keep oil under control.

Those with oily skin should not skip a good toner. After each time you cleanse, use a clean cotton ball to use a toner, paying close attention to your most oily areas. This will remove any leftover dirt, makeup, oil and other impurities from your skin.

Even though your skin is oily, you still need to moisturise because oil does not equal hydration. The key is to use a moisturiser that is light and oil-free. Since your skin is oily, you can usually skip nighttime application and only apply it during the day.

Weekly Oily Skin Care

On a weekly basis, you want to use a good mask and a gentle exfoliator. The mask that you choose should work to purge and tighten your pores since large pores are common among those with oily skin.

Go for a clay mask because this penetrates your pores, pulls out impurities and helps to soak up any excess oil.

You should apply the mask after cleansing your face and let it sit for 30 to 60 minutes so that it has time to work. Simply rinse it away with cool water and use your toner to remove any leftover mask.

Your exfoliator will encourage cell turnover by removing dead skin cells. You want an exfoliator that has small particles since the skin on your face is delicate. This is especially important if you are prone to acne because harsh exfoliators can make acne worse.

After exfoliating, cleanse your skin and use your toner and moisturiser as usual.

Other Care for Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you may also be prone to breakouts that you want to keep under control. Your daily and weekly routines are very helpful, but they may not always be enough.

If you simply get the occasional pimple, a spot treatment is ideal. Use a cream or gel that contains either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to kill the bacteria and dry out the blemish.

If you have frequent bouts of acne, you may need more regular treatments to keep your skin clear.

Since over-the-counter acne treatments are meant for short-term use, you should talk to a dermatologist if you need to use something regularly. They can recommend a product or prescribe something that will work to reduce your current breakouts and prevent new ones from popping up.

Make sure that you stick to your routine and do not skip steps or days.

You can control oily skin, but it is important to be diligent with your routine. This will help to keep your sebaceous glands under control throughout the day so that excessive oil does not accumulate on your face.
