MY EVERYDAY 5 MINUTE MAKEUP ROUTINE

Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the time to apply a full face of makeup every damn day. I used to love spending a good hour before work sitting in front of my vanity playing and experimenting with makeup. It was my little bit of mindfulness before a day of counselling ruthless teenagers. But that was BC (before child). Now everything is a rush. I still need to look my best but in a fraction of the time, while trying to wrangle a small child that likes to pull every last product out of my drawers.

I have finally perfected my daily makeup routine, and after many requests over on Instagram, I’ve compiled a blog post all about my favourite products. And the best news? It takes 5 minutes total!

SKIN PREP

One way that I save time is absorbing the primer step into my skincare (or ditching it all together) If you use a moisturiser that not only hydrates but also prepares your skin for makeup, you’ve already saved yourself 2 minutes. My favourite is the Bioderma Moisturising Concentrate.  This serum-like formula is so silky smooth but packed full of hydration. It leaves my skin smooth and fresh, but without any residue. Perfect for skin prep. I also love the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base to give my skin a big drink of moisturiser.

(Pssst. this step doesn’t count toward my 5 minute total because it is skincare 😉)

FOUNDATION AND CONCEALER – 1 MINUTE

The kind of coverage and finish I am after will determine what base I use.  If I need something with decent coverage, good longevity or a high SPF, I reach for my ever trusty IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream.  For everyday errands, I’ll apply my Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. This gives great coverage with a beautiful luminosity. And, lastly, if time is really an issue or if it is just a bad morning, my Nudestix Tinted Blur Stick comes to the rescue. The stick design allows for ridiculously easy application and all imperfections are quickly blurred away.

The best thing about all of these foundations is the ease of application. All three can be applied with your fingertips or a sponge without any patchiness or streaks.

If I am looking particularly haggard or have a few spots I want to cover, I reach for my Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer. This little baby is really easy to apply. just dip your finger into the pot and pat it on to the skin. No setting required.

BROWS – 30 SECONDS

I am cheating a bit here because I do have my brows tattooed, but I still do fill them in daily as the arches have started to fade.  Micro pencils like the are perfect to draw in a few hairs and add definition. My current go-to is the MAC Shade and Shape Brow Tint. The felt tip and powder duo is all I need to creat defined but natural brows. I honestly only add 3-4 strokes of product to each side and then comb through with a spoolie. Speedy quick.

CHEEKS – 1 MINUTE

Having an all-in-one, multi-use palette really saves me time. My beloved Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette* has got my cheeks and eyes covered. I swirl the bronzer on my cheeks, up past my temples and then into the hairline – instant bronzed goddess. I swish a touch of the highlighting shade on my cheekbones and then dust Dim light all over for delicious luminosity and radiance. I even use the one brush to save one time.

*See how loved my palette is?! Out of my embarrassing large makeup collection, actually finishing a product like this is a big deal. The gives you evidence of my love for this powder. Pan City.

EYES – 1 MINUTE

Want to save even more time? You can skip this step altogether.

Using the very same face palette, I give my eyes a bit of definition by haphazardly dusting the bronze shade over the entire lid. I’ll then use the same brush and Dim Light to blend out the edges. Add a touch of the highlight shade to the inner corner and the brow bone and I’m done.

You can then coat your lashes in a mascara. I use Nars Climax because it doesn’t clump and gives you beautiful big fluffy lashes.

Tah-dah, you look put together already.

LIPS – 10 SECONDS

I like to opt for a different lip-product every day to change up my look. But without a doubt, 9 times out of 10  I’ll be wearing Lanolips of some variety. My current go-to is the brand new Lip Luminser. It hydrating, slightly tinted and super comfortable.

RESULTS

And we are done! I’ve got 4 minutes 43 on my timer, and I am looking like I’ve got my shit together – well my face does anyway.  If you’re an oily lass, you may need to include more of a setting powder and spray to ensure you stay fresh and flawless all day.  Dry babes might prefer to use more cream products to ensure powders don’t stick to any little flaky bits.

Most of these products are also available from Amazon.
